What is Dru?

“Dru comes from the Sanskrit word dhruva, which refers to the stillness that can be experienced in Dru Yoga and Dru Meditation. In this stillness, we are able to sit back from anything that may be happening around us, and see and act from a point of clarity and inner calm.” - Reference druyoga.com/yoga/how-is-dru-yoga-different

Key elements:

All practices can be modified to suit any individual’s unique needs

Dru works intimately with the spine to improve alignment, posture, general health, and well-being.

Classes are designed to prepare and support the body (physically, mentally, emotionally, energetically) and mind through postures (asanas) sequences, meditation, breathing (pranayama) and relaxation.

Dru is gentle and flowing, energising and uplifting.

Tension can be released physically, mentally, and emotionally during a class ( or sometimes after) and your energy system can be cleared of blockages and “re-booted” This will leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed, and re-jeuvinated.

My personal experience of Dru.

Dru was my third yoga teacher training, which I Embarked on in October 2014 whilst 7 months pregnant with our third child.

I was searching for a more therapeutic style of yoga to learn and teach. I was also missing community!

I had completed 500+ hours over two previous trainings in Australia and India. Both of these had given me a fantastic grounding in physical safety and also opened me up to the science, spirituality, and mystery of yoga as an ancient and modern modality for healing, a self-care tool kit, personal transformation, and development.

In choosing Dru, I became part of a growing international and local (NZ) Dru community where there is a spirit of Manaakitanga and where health, vitality, service, harmony, and friendship are highly valued.

Dru has provided me with an incredible kete (basket) of resources from postures to breathwork to meditation.

These create healing, stability, transformation, resilience mentally and emotionally, clarity, and energy in my daily life.

I have learnt the importance of turning up daily to my mat and that discipline is an act of self-love and self-care.

Through my practice and continuing education I have improved my posture, reduced pain, become more emotionally resilient and mature, my mind is clearer and calmer. I have energy and vitality to do the things which bring me joy and cope well with the challenges life brings. My relationships have gotten healthier and more positive.

At nearly 50 years of age, I feel healthy, energetic, motivated, and grateful!

I am passionate about teaching and sharing yoga, breathwork, and meditation with family, friends, and students in my nurture soul community. This is a lifelong journey for me and as such I am constantly updating and adding to my basket of knowledge and experience. This is so I can continue to be healthy, vibrant, and positively engaged with life as well as sharing and supporting others on their journey too.
